NFS Support & Consulting

NFS (short for Network File System) is a protocol for sharing files within a network.

Originally developed by Sun Microsystems, development was handed over to the IETF for NFSv4. The most common version used in production today is NFSv3, although NFSv4 adoption is starting to take hold.

credativ NFS experience

credativ supports many customer file servers using NFS, and also uses it internally to share files easily.

For one of our projects, we were asked to speed up the synchronization of two 16TB NAS data stores being served over NFS. Because of the sheer scale of the filesystems involved, we had to pull out all the stops to find optimizations based on the size and timestamps of the files. This also required a good understanding of how NFS interacted with the standard backup tools we were using, such as rsync.

Of course, In most customer situations, NFS on file servers is less exciting - Linux's NFS implementation is solid, reliable and proven in hundreds of thousands of deployments. We can also support heterogenous environments with Windows-based NFS clients.

NFS is open source software, which means that the user has the ability to change and customise it for their needs. Our consultants can provide expert support to manage and administer NFS installations.

credativ has the largest dedicated open source support team in Europe, with the capability to offer up to 24x7 coverage for any NFS installation. Our support contracts are priced competitively, starting at just £199 per month. This will cover any free software used by the customer - see our Open Source Support Centre for more.
